Heart Exam: A God-Shaped Hole

"God has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts..." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Isaiah refers to God as the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whoes name is Holy (Isaiah 57:15). In Isaiah 43:7, God says, "Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him,  yes I have made him."

God created us for His glory; He formed us as eternal. God put eternity in us. God and eternity cannot be separated. As eternity is in us all, we have a God-shaped hole in our hearts. This is a hole that yearns to be filled, and can only be filled with God.

The enemy (Satan) supplies us with square pegs that we continue to try to fit into the round, God-shaped hole. These square pegs may look like this: relying on our own strength, alcohol, drugs, sex, material ambitions, and more. There are unlimited square pegs, but only one round peg--the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity.

When the disciples of Jesus ask, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looks at them and responds, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27). God saves! Jesus saves! It is God that formed the hole within us, so it makes sense that it is only God and Jesus Christ that can fill that space.

Please read Acts 17:24-31. Please don't skip this reading. Let's all continue to evaluate with what we are trying to fill our hearts.
