Heirs with Christ

"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)

I AM A CHILD OF GOD! Shout it from the rooftops! The Creator of all things was not only willing to save us from our sin but to adopt us as His children. Once we understand the value of being a child of God, we must understand the responsibility that comes with being His child. This year, we will be spending time discussing the responsibilities that come with being an heir of God.

As God’s heir, we are to strive to imitate Him in all things. One way we show this is by how we treat others. The Hebrew writer says that we are to strive for peace with everyone. Our relationship with God is going to be seen in our relationship with one another. How are we treating our fellow heirs? How are we treating those that  need to become heirs?

The Hebrew writer goes on and says we are to pursue holiness. As an heir of God, we are to strive to be like our Father. Peter tells us that we are to be holy as God is holy (1 Peter 1:13-16). The question is never whether people want the inheritance that comes with being a child of God; the question is, are people willing to actively imitate our Father?

The writer concludes with the wonderful thought of being able to one day see God. As His children we should be able to see Him in all things. Romans 1 tells us that we should clearly see Him in His creation. Can you see Him? As His children, are we striving to be with Him for eternity?

You are an heir of God! Let us do all that we can to inherit the blessings that come with being His heir.
