Heart Exam: An Enlightened Eye
We have already looked at various ways our hearts are affected by God's word and this time we will see how our eyes impact our heart.
The scriptures are full of how we need to be enlightened through our eyes of faith (Ephesians 1:18).
In Matthew 5:8, Jesus says "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God"...for they shall see God. I want us to think how this phrase can be understood in two ways. One obvious conclusion of how we will see God is when we reach heaven. But I want us to look at how we see Him now. We see God by reading His will. His love and compassion for us is revealed in a simple verse like John 3:16. When we see Him through His word, it shows us how we should be in our life everyday.
In 2 Peter 1:4 we see that we can be "partakers of His divine nature" by our knowing God through His word.
Our looking to God's nature will define our lives... we will be more like Him. Our life will be focused on Him. We will have singleness of heart. We will have a "pure heart" void of hypocrisy, guile or evil actions or motives.
Quite simply, our focusing on God as the psalmist says in Psalm 19:8, " The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord are pure, enlightening the eyes."
Let's open our eyes together and be enlightened by God's nature revealed in His word and grow in Him.
