Who to Follow

There is an old saying in the medical field, that a person knows their own body better than any doctor or anyone else. As humans we love hearing we are right and that we know it all. But, there is someone who in fact knows our body--and more importantly our souls--better than us: God. Most of us (if not all) have been to the doctor or a hospital before and that experience will prove my point.

I am sure it is safe to say we all hate going to the doctor’s office or the hospital, especially if we are already feeling unwell in the first place. By the time a patient relative has convinced our grumpy selves to go, or by the time we stand out of a hospital bed to greet the doctor, we tell everyone, “We are fine!” We will say and do whatever we need to so that we can go home ASAP, just to once again drag our grumpy selves back after realizing we are still sick or still need time to heal. Meanwhile our all-knowing, all-powerful and almighty God is telling us that our bodies are not our own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We need to take care of our bodies because they are a temple for a purpose much greater than ourselves and our desires (Hebrews 13:1-6).

Whether out of stubbornness or simply being caught up in our own moments, we (as Christians) can forget that we are outnumbered soldiers fighting an immeasurable enemy. Satan and the world want us to feel as though we have no help. They want us to feel self-impowered and to take on as much as we can take and then some more with a feeling of contempt, anger, jealousy, hatred, etc. to keep us company. Yes, we as individuals do have some strength, but the beauty of it all is that we truly have help and are not alone. Why have some strength when you can have ALL the strength, with God and His church? Just like Moses in Exodus 17, God is there constantly standing above all with His arms wide open and high in the sky. He is there making sure we always have victory !

Do you want to “fight” alone or with God? Are you going to be a person that leans on His everlasting arms, or watch what unfolds around you? Do you want the only way to truly conquer your fears, anger, desires, contempt, etc.? Who will you follow?
